Welcome to our weekly news roundup where we highlight our top stories of the week. The week started off with how Accenture and Microsoft assist Unilever with its massive cloud transition. This cloud transformation by Accenture, Microsoft and Unilever has set a new benchmark in the consumer goods industry, unlocking new innovation opportunities such as utilising industrial metaverse technologies to accelerate lighthouse factories of the future.

Microsoft and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are two of the largest cloud computing providers in the world which are been accused of anti-competitive practices by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is investigating their business practices to determine whether they are harming competition in the market. Microsoft and AWS are being investigated by the CMA over competition concerns. The investigation by the CMA is part of a wider trend of increased scrutiny of technology giants by regulators around the world.

The rise of modern technologies such as cloud computing and the increasing demand for digital transformation has made it necessary for businesses to move away from COBOL.

GFT and CloudFrame helps industries in saying good-by to COBOL. This tool helps businesses in migrating their COBOL applications to Java, which is a modern language that is widely used today.

In recent years, cyberattacks have become an increasingly common problem, with hackers constantly seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in computer systems and networks. One group that has been particularly active in this regard is North Korea, which has been linked to a number of high-profile cyberattacks in recent years. Google TAG issues a warning about ARCHIPELAGO cyberattacks linked to North Korea which are designed to target businesses in the United States and other countries.

Furthermore, A group of Google employees walk out of the London office in protest of layoffs to protest against the planned job cuts that Google announced in January, which will affect around 12,000 employees globally. Google employs over 5,000 staff in the UK and it is expected that a significant portion of this workforce could be impacted by the cuts.

NTT a global technology and business solutions provider, recently launched its own MDR security service. NTT MDR Service Improves Cyber Resilience Based on Microsoft Sentinel. The service is built on Microsoft Sentinel and utilises AI automation, and threat intelligence, collects and analyzes data across all users, devices, apps, and infrastructure, both on-prem and in multi-cloud environments.

Next, Elon Musk has finally admitted the stress he was under when he first took over Twitter and that now Twitter can now monetise its Blue, Gold and Grey checkmarks, the company can now break even.

Our last story featured how The UK criminal records office experienced a two-month cyber security issue. ACRO the UK’s national office for managing criminal record information, has been hit by a cyber security incident that lasted for two months from January 17 to March 21, 2023. ACRO confirmed that it was aware of the cyber security incident and is working with national agencies to investigate further.
