Data and artificial intelligence software powerhouse Databricks has officially closed a massive $5 billion strategic funding round, raising its valuation to $190 billion. The deal, coming just six months after the company was valued at $134 billion in early 2026, underscores surging investor appetite for cloud infrastructure platforms powering enterprise AI agents.

The mega-round exceeded initial target disclosures of $188 billion due to heavy institutional demand. The financing was led by Coatue, with participation from major institutional backers including Blackstone, MGX, and funds advised by T. Rowe Price, alongside new investor Sixth Street Growth.

Accelerated Revenue Growth and Product Milestones

The record valuation bump is backed by rapid operational expansion across Databricks' core data processing and developer product suites. Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Ali Ghodsi confirmed that the company's annualized revenue run-rate has crossed $7 billion in its second quarter, representing over 80% year-over-year top-line growth.

Key operational performance drivers highlighted in the announcement include:

Enterprise Market Penetration: Over 1,000 enterprise customers now generate more than $1 million in annual recurring revenue, with more than 100 accounts exceeding $10 million annually.

  • Lakehouse Data Warehousing: The company’s flagship data warehousing product surpassed a $1.5 billion annualized revenue run-rate, directly competing against publicly traded rival Snowflake.

  • Lakebase AI Infrastructure: Databricks' newly launched Lakebase database product crossed a $100 million revenue run-rate. The system spins up over 16 million PostgreSQL instances daily to allow AI agents to dynamically store context, execute code, and manage state.

  • Capital Allocation Strategy: AI Agents and Infrastructure M&A

Databricks plans to allocate the $5 billion injection into scaling compute infrastructure, expanding its Unity AI Gateway platform, and funding strategic AI startup acquisitions.

Speaking on the shift toward autonomous software, Ghodsi noted that enterprise demand is transitioning from basic chat interfaces to complex agent workflows. "Enterprises don't just want AI that talks," Ghodsi stated. "They want agents working across their business that remember context, deliver accurate answers, and execute work without blowing through their budgets."

Postponing Public Markets

Despite ranking among the world's most valuable private technology firms, Databricks remains in no rush to pursue an initial public offering (IPO). Management reiterated that while a public listing remains a long-term milestone, private secondary and primary capital rounds provide sufficient liquidity for staff while shielding product development from public market volatility.
