The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of 75-year-old Mary Carole McDonnell. The former true-crime television producer was added to the bureau’s newly established Most Wanted Fraudsters list after allegedly posing as a wealthy heiress with a secret multi-million-dollar trust fund to defraud financial institutions out of nearly $30 million.

Federal authorities believe McDonnell fled the United States following her 2018 federal indictment and is currently hiding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to evade extradition.

The Mechanics of the $30 Million Bank Fraud Scheme

According to federal court records unsealed in Los Angeles, McDonnell executed a series of sophisticated loan application schemes targeting regional banks across Southern California, including Banc of California. Prosecutors allege that McDonnell leveraged falsified financial statements, forged trust agreements, and fabricated lineage records to secure millions in commercial lines of credit and personal loans.

She allegedly claimed to be the direct heir to a vast aircraft manufacturing fortune, asserting she had access to a multi-million-dollar offshore secret trust fund. To secure bank approval, she submitted fraudulent tax documents, altered bank records, and misused stolen personal identities to verify nonexistent collateral.

A significant portion of the illicitly obtained credit lines was funneled to fund her now-defunct television production company, Bellum Entertainment LLC, which produced syndicated true-crime programming before collapsing in 2017 amid wage theft allegations.

International Pursuit and Fugitive Notice

McDonnell has been living as a fugitive since 2018 after a federal grand jury indicted her on charges of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. According to Patrick Grandy, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, international law enforcement coordination is actively closing in on McDonnell.

The serial offender is known to operate under several primary aliases, including Mary Carole Carroll, Mary Carol McDonnell, and Mary C. Carroll.

The FBI noted McDonnell maintains active financial and personal ties to Los Angeles, California; Montgomery, Alabama; and Dubai, where investigators suspect she is actively concealing her identity.

Escalating Federal Focus on High-Value Financial Crime

The $150,000 reward highlights a broader push by federal law enforcement to track down fugitives hiding in international safe havens.

As the FBI collaborates with authorities in the United Arab Emirates and international police partners, law enforcement officials expressed confidence that public tips will ultimately result in McDonnell’s capture and return to face trial in federal court.
