Google's Gemini app just got a new upgrade. Starting today, Gemini users can edit both uploaded and AI-generated images directly within the app. With this new enhancement, you can snap a photo of a complex problem, upload it directly to Gemini, and then use the in-app editing tools to highlight specific areas or add annotations before asking for insights or solutions.

Previously, the feature was only available on Google AI Studio. “Earlier this year, we were the first to put the power of native AI image editing directly in people’s hands with AI Studio. Building on the positive feedback from people using this feature, we’re expanding these capabilities to the Gemini app,” the company wrote in a blog post.
While the full suite of editing capabilities is still being explored, early indications suggest that users will have access to essential tools such as cropping, resizing, rotating, and perhaps even basic adjustments like brightness and contrast.
For example, you can upload a photo and prompt Gemini to generate an image of what you'd look like with different hair colors.
This multi-step editing capability allows for richer, more contextual responses, integrating text and images seamlessly. Imagine asking Gemini to create a first draft of a bedtime story about dragons and providing images to accompany the story.
All images edited or created with Gemini will include Google’s invisible SynthID watermark. The company is also experimenting with adding a visible watermark on all images generated by Gemini.
The rollout started last week and will expand to users in over 45 languages and most countries in the coming weeks.
