Google has launched its new AI coding agent, Jules, making it available to the public with both free and paid plans. Jules, powered by the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, is an asynchronous agent designed to help users write, test, and improve code.

What is Jules?

Jules is an autonomous coding assistant that works in the background, allowing developers to delegate complex tasks and focus on other work. Unlike synchronous tools that require constant user input, Jules operates in a virtual machine, cloning a user's codebase and working on tasks like writing tests, fixing bugs, and building new features.

During its beta phase, developers submitted hundreds of thousands of tasks, resulting in over 140,000 public code improvements. Jules has been updated with a streamlined interface, multimodal support for visual outputs, and integrations with tools like GitHub Issues.

Pricing and availability

While Jules is now publicly available, there are different tiers of access. The free plan offers a limited number of daily tasks and concurrent projects. For those needing more capacity, Google offers AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions for $124.99 and $199.99 per month, respectively. These paid plans increase the number of daily and concurrent tasks and provide priority access to the latest Gemini models.

This launch is part of a broader push by Google to integrate its Gemini-based AI agents into its products, with the company aiming to make AI more productive by automating various aspects of work. It is designed to be helpful for developers, but also for those with less formal coding experience, such as website designers and enterprise workers.
