TikTok has officially unveiled a major update to its comment infrastructure, transforming standard text replies into an interactive community feed. The short-form video platform announced four new interactive comment features: 60-second voice comments, creator-led polls, 9-photo carousels, and Apple Live Photo support.

The changes are designed to boost user retention beneath posts, turning comment sections into dedicated micro-forums for community interaction.

60-Second Voice Notes Enter the Comment Box

The most notable addition is the introduction of Voice Comments. Users can tap a microphone icon within the comment box to record audio messages up to 60 seconds long, which are then published inline alongside optional text captions for other viewers to play back.

To mitigate safety and harassment risks associated with audio moderation, TikTok has instituted specific operational guardrails. To begin with, voice comments are strictly limited to accounts belonging to users aged 18 and older.

Additionally, audio submissions undergo automated speech-to-text transcription alongside human moderation to detect policy violations, hate speech, and harassment before or shortly after going live.

The feature is rolling out globally over the next month as infrastructure scales.

Creator-Led Comment Polls for Real-Time Feedback

TikTok has also launched Comment Polls globally designed to help creators crowdsource audience feedback without forcing users into third-party links or video replies.

Creators can attach interactive polls directly inside their video’s comment thread by setting up to five voting choices and defining custom voting durations. Viewers can vote inline, with real-time percentages updated continuously as responses roll in.

Expanded Visual Replies: Carousels and Live Photos

Alongside voice and polling tools, TikTok has upgraded its visual comment capabilities to move beyond single-image uploads. Users can upload up to nine photos in a single, swipeable carousel inside a single comment thread, enabling detailed multi-image reactions or step-by-step responses.

Better yet, users can upload Apple Live Photos directly into the thread. The images display a brief burst of motion before settling into static previews, adding a dynamic layer to visual reactions.

While Comment Polls and Live Photo replies are live globally for all users, Voice Comments and Photo Carousels will continue rolling out in phases over the coming weeks across iOS and Android apps.
