Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has confidentially filed paperwork for an initial public offering (IPO), marking a major milestone in the rapidly escalating competition among the world’s leading AI firms. The company confirmed that it submitted a draft S-1 registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), allowing it to privately begin the IPO review process before publicly disclosing detailed financial information.

In an official statement, Anthropic said the proposed offering would depend on market conditions and regulatory review. The company did not disclose how many shares it plans to sell or the expected valuation for the IPO.
Confidential filings are commonly used by large technology firms preparing for public listings because they allow companies to work with regulators privately before releasing sensitive financial data to investors and competitors.
Industry analysts believe Anthropic could move toward a public debut as early as late 2026 if market conditions remain favorable.
Valuation nears $1 trillion
The filing comes shortly after Anthropic completed a massive funding round that reportedly pushed the company’s valuation to approximately $965 billion, making it one of the most valuable private technology companies in the world. The AI startup has experienced explosive growth over the past year, driven largely by strong enterprise adoption of its Claude AI models and coding-focused AI products such as Claude Code.
Anthropic’s annualized revenue reportedly surged from roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025 to more than $47 billion in 2026 as businesses accelerated AI deployments across software development, cybersecurity, research, and enterprise automation.
Rivalry with OpenAI intensifies
Anthropic’s IPO filing further intensifies its rivalry with OpenAI, which is also widely expected to pursue a public listing in the near future.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers and executives, including CEO Dario Amodei and president Daniela Amodei, Anthropic initially positioned itself as an AI safety-focused alternative to competitors.
However, the company has rapidly evolved into one of the dominant commercial players in generative AI, competing directly with OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Elon Musk’s xAI.
Investor appetite for AI remains strong
Anthropic’s IPO could become one of the largest technology listings in history and may serve as a major test of investor confidence in the AI sector.
Wall Street enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence companies has surged over the past two years, with investors betting that generative AI will reshape industries ranging from software engineering and healthcare to finance and defense.
Analysts say Anthropic’s early move toward public markets could give the company an advantage in attracting capital ahead of competing AI giants also preparing IPOs.
