Hello and welcome to our weekly news insights where we explore the top stories of the week. These are the stories that made headlines. To begin with, Google Cloud has recorded a profit for the first time in its 15 years of operation. And while the company is nowhere near Amazon’s AWS profits, it’s a step in the right direction, especially since it reported a $706 million loss two years ago.



In other news, a source close to the UK government has revealed that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is planning on investing £1 billion into the country’s semiconductor industry. This comes after calls for government support from semiconductor companies in the country.


Moving on to cybersecurity, researchers from Cyble have warned against a macOS malware that threat actors are using to exfiltrate personal information. The malware is being leased on Telegram for $1,000 per month.


On the other side of the world, Alibaba Cloud has announced a reduction in price for some of its services as it looks to get ahead of its competitors. Only Chinese cloud consumers will benefit from the reduced prices.


Additionally, networking company Zyxel has discovered a critical security vulnerability in its firewall devices that could enable hackers to remotely execute code on affected devices. The company has already released a patch.


In MSP news, Kaseya has continued its expansion with the acquisition of two new businesses. The managed services software developer has also announced the launch of a cyber insurance program unlike any other in the industry.


Lastly, Access Management company has partnered with Google to allow customers merge its active directory program with Google Workspace.
